![]() ![]() For tanks, you’ll start off by assigning them to your “reserve tanks” which are free to use, to get you started. Along the bottom a horizontal line of Nation flags and below that you’ll see a horizontal list of crews or vehicles (if you have assigned crews to vehicles) If you have not assigned these crews, there should be 2 free crews, per country awaiting to be assigned to vehicles. Along the top some info, make sure you select “ground battles”. You can use multiple presets to play different tanks at different Battle Ratings (BR) ranges and quickly reconfigure your crews into the desired BR level vehicle.Īs a new player when you look at the War Thunder Interface there is a large central area that may have a picture of a vehicle. The Match Maker will select a battle in the BR5 range, and for respawns, your BR2 tanks may not be competitive. When it comes to respawns, you might find this awkward. Let’s say you have only progressed to BR2 tanks, but you buy a BR5 Premium Tank. This is where presets come into play to make this management of crews easier. No problem I can manually move this crew to the BR2 tank. But remember I’ll have multiple respawns, and I have two (or more?) other crew members in higher level tanks that I also have to move back to other BR2 tanks, say a Med Tank Crew, and a Tank Destroyer Crew (my categorization) so they will be available as respawn vehicles during the fight. But today I want to play my BR2 tank that this crew is qualified on. ![]() So let’s say you have a crew, I’ll call it my Light Tank Crew and I have progressed this crew from a BR1 tank up to a BR5 tank. I’ll assume when you play your BR2 tank, that you’d also like to use your other tanks in the BR 2 range for your respawns. So I can dictate a battle for my BR2 tank, by selecting that crewed tank before starting the battle could end up in a battle with BR3 tanks (+1). ![]() My understanding is that if I don’t pick a specific vehicle, the Match Maker will look at all of my crewed vehicles, and pick a battle based on the vehicle with the highest BR, a battle your BR+1. You may or may not be familiar with Battle Rating (BR) or the War Thunder Match Making (see links), but without going into it, the Matchmaker uses BR to determine what group of tanks you’ll be in and fighting against based on their Battle Rating of the tank, not the skill of the crew.įrom the Match Maker Link: The matchmaker takes the vehicle with the highest BR from the whole player’s setup or the BR of the single vehicle selected for battle and matches it to a game session based on such a vehicle.įor my scenario, I’ll say I have tanks up to BR5, but today I want to play my BR2 tanks. And as you progress, you’ll acquire many more tanks, and will be recycling these same crews on multiple tanks. Remember each tank has a crew assigned to it, so when you spawn into a different tank, it’s a different crew. If you are brand new and only have one vehicle, you won’t get a respawn unless you get one of those special cards that allows you to use the same tank two times in a battle. Of note at the beginning of a battle you’ll see a comment: “3 Respawns” which means the initial spawn and two respawns. There are some circumstances you can reuse the same tank, but more likely you’ll be respawning into different tanks. In other words, you get more than one chance and more than one tank in a battle. War Thunder features vehicle respawns in battle. If you are familiar with World of Tanks, this is much different, where there, your crews are basically locked to vehicles, and to move them requires retraining, plus they lose their previous skills. To move them to another vehicle requires a one time training fee and after that they can bounce around tanks gaining experience on multiple tanks as you see fit. Aircrew can't be moved to tanks and vice a versa. ![]() Note ground crews and aircrews can't switch roles. Your War Thunder crews gain experience on any vehicle they operate. If the crew is paired with a vehicle, you’ll see that vehicle’s image. They will be paired with the vehicle you paired them with when that preset is active. Unless you put them on holiday, (I think) all crews will appear in this horizontal listing. A War Thunder Preset is a configuration of all of your crews, some or all that have been paired with specific tanks. The purpose of this post is to describe Presets, why you would need them, and how to set them up. Please let me know if the info in it is not accurate or if you find it confusing. As a recent new War Thunder tank player, I found Presets to not be as intuitive as they could be so I wrote this Guide. ![]()
